Yoga is equivalent to health insurance, without dragging it into controversies we should all embrace yoga” said PM Modi at the Capitol complex Chandigarh while addressing 30,000 people gathered to perform yoga on the 2nd International Yoga Day.

Australian Indian community also celebrated yoga day uniquely and in a grand way inside the iconic Parliament of Victoria.

India Australia Exchange Forum ( IAEF), a Melbourne headquartered  non-profit organization along with Hindu Council of Australia ( HCA) celebrated the event by bringing various other organizations under one roof.

IAEF is the same team who ran Modi express when PM Modi came to Sydney and a special train was run from Melbourne to Sydney with 100s of Modi supporters.

Encouraged by the overwhelming response received on the 1st IDY last year, IAEF stepped up in their efforts to mark the big day in a unique way by holding a yoga session inside the Parliament.  Arguably it may be world’s first Parliament where a Yoga session was held.

As the world has accepted that yoga is an invaluable gift from India to the world, It was a wonderful opportunity for the Indian community of Australia to showcase it’s culture and heritage in the temple of democracy – the Parliament of Victoria. It was a huge achievement for the young team of IAEF who had been striving for months to organize this event.

The yoga session was held in Queens Hall on June 21, 2016. The session began at 7:30 AM and concluded by 9:30 AM.

In his opening speech, Vijeth Shetty, chairman of  IAEF, welcomed all the yoga enthusiasts and other dignitaries and explained the vision and mission of IAEF.

He thanked and appreciated all the organisations who took active part to make this event a grand success.
The Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Iskon Temple Melbourne, The Art of Living, Shirdi Sai Sansthan Melbourne, Shree Swaminarayan Temple Melbourne, Shree Durga Temple in Rockbank and the Jet Foundation were few of the many partner organisations who participated and extended their support.

Ted Baillieu, the former premier of Victoria, Member of Parliament  John Pesutto and renowned PR consultant and author  Stephen Manallack were among the yoga enthusiasts present and performed different asanas  under the supervision of yoga instructor Rajendra Kumar  from Vasudev kriya yoga, Melbourne.

IAEF team is truly grateful for best wishes and support from Premier of Victoria Hon. Daniel Andrews , Speaker of the Parliament Hon. Telmo Languiller  and ex premier Hon. Ted Baillieu for the event.
